This was the 1st trip where the Jeeps were "Lifted and Locked".   Chiva Falls is rated a 3.5 and I had just added the new BFG Mud Terrain's(whew).  The adrenaline was high since this was my 1st time on this level of trail and I had the extra challenge of being "unlocked".  This means that I had open differentials in my truck and if one tire lost traction the axle disengaged.   We made it all the way to the Fall which had only a small trickle then headed back the way we came.  There were no major problems though I had a difficult time coming back up "the crack" and managed to scrape the right rear fender a bit on a rock.   Gives the truck character.  <grin>  I also landed 2-3 times on the rear Smittybilt bumper, but it's there to protect the body so I don't mind.  Also on this trail run were Jeff in his '95 YJ and Scott in his '93 YJ.  Ian, Chris and Kurt were also passengers.

Here are some new Chiva falls pictures.  These are a mixture of some new scans of old pictures and a recent Chiva run on May 5th 1999.   Some of the old pictures are from a Chiva run where I was fortunate enough t o have my wonderful wife along.  Others are from a snowy day(Easter Sunday)when Kaye and some of her friends went for a ride with me.  On the 5th we met at the Desert Market on Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway.  I was expecting 3 vehicles and eight showed up.  It was my 4runner, Scott's Jeep (with the newly installed engine<smile>), Jeff's white Jeep, Leah's monster CJ, Jeff's(Leah's sig.) Scrambler, Dan's modified Willey's Jeep (Dan installed Scott's engine), a monsterous Toyota 4x4 that made me drool, and put together truck that may have once been an old dodge.  A new friend of mine Dan was not only my copilot for this trip but provided some nice shots with his digital camera.  Also, one the way back from the falls we stopped at a site named "Three Pools" which is a natural rock catch basin for water in three seperate pools.   Three of us dared the cool mountain water (Jeff, Ian and I) to strip to our underware and jump in.  Very nice after a hot afternoon on the trail. Sorry no pictures of this.<sheepish grin>
